Room for the Study Of Loneliness : space for contemporary art in Overijssel, the Netherlands
|
Objective:
The practice, presentation and study of contemporary art The sale of contemporary art, books (Theory) and magazines (Criticism) Not-for-Profit:
Possible revenues will be used to achieve the substantive objectives |
Vision:
Within R.S.O.L. a work of art is appreciated for what the work wants and does autonomously, and not for how much money it could be sold for or because it can reach a large audience. Within R.S.O.L. the elusive social status that an artist receives is built on the substantive contribution that she, he or they has made with her, his or their work to the practice, and not on where her, his or their work was shown, by whom she, he or they was mentioned, and for how much money her, his or their work is traded. R.S.O.L. does not provide a system criticique, but simply works from a different system of values. Professionality is in R.S.O.L. not about 'earning a living', but about being a 'good' practitioner of contemporary art. Taking art back to art itself, and to its practitioners: first of all to the artists, but also to those who study and research art, love art and work in art. Art as an open, ongoing, non-linear process nourished and supported by the interrelations and translocal (and transhistorical) exchanges between practitioners in different places in the country and the world. R.S.O.L. is a place for working, discussing and playing, in the margin of society and of what is generaly regarded to be the artworld.

- may the Marcel(le) be with you:
"Various forms of collectivity and cooperation are at the heart of today's art revolution. Artists are joining forces and working together, locally and globally. Values that have defined western art production for centuries, such as personal signature, copyright, market value, fame and individual artistic genius, have no meaning for them. These artists go underground by withdrawing from the traditional platforms of the Western art world, such as museums and galleries. They make themselves and their artworks to some extent invisible, that is, invisible as expressions of individual art practices. They go underground by developing new art forms in which it is more about the process of creation and reflection and about sharing than about a concrete end product."
