the Boys Books Series
With the Boys Books Series I wanted to go back to the fun of drawing when I was growing up. The narrative element of my youthful drawings I connected to the adventurous spirit that haunts the boys books and their illustrations of my youth. Children and animals are basic elements in this series of drawings, in which I mainly worked with pen and ink. The line and shading are the pictural elements that form the theme of the series. One of the first books that touched me as a child, in my preschool period, was the famous picture book 'Where the Wild Things Are' by Maurice Sendak. As a small boy I was so delighted about this book, that I 'read out' the book in my own way to everyone who visited the family home. The enthusiasm for stories that find meaningful response I wanted to relive with the Boys Books Series. The friendship between animals and children is an issue that raises questions about the nature of man. Do we master nature, or can the friendly animal suddenly appear perilous?
